Eagles end 2006 on top

Bank of England 4's vs BB Eagles 5's 1-4

Sugg 1
Guy 2
Dan 1

Man of match - Woody

Eagles kept up their winning ways with a trip to the immaculate grounds of Bank of England. Not to be overwhelmed by their surroundings Eagles stuck to the task at hand and started the match well.

Eagles looked the more comfortable on the ball, playing out of defence and putting good passing moves together. Eagles were most effective down the wings and it wasn't long before it was to pay off. With Woody and Ronan linking well down the left Woody found space down the left flank and after evading one challenge crossed to Guy who had time to tee up and shoot to put Eagles ahead, 0-1.

B of E tried to get themselves in the game but found a robust Eagles defence and terrier like tackling midfied in their way. 15 minutes later and Eagles extended their lead with probably the move and goal of the seaon so far.
Charles chased a lost cause down the right and with Eagles comfortable playing the ball back worked the ball from the right around the Eagles back for up the left side where once again Woody sent in another cross. Suggs sneaked in to send a well placed header into the bottom right corner, superb!

Eagles keeper was never tested as Guy hit the post and Dan also went close.

Half time: 0-2

B of E pushed forward in the second half to salvage a result, Eagles became lazy and a little too much time spent on the ball cost them a goal. B of E won a free kick which was glanced in for 1-2. A wake up call for Eagles as this was only the 5th minute of the second half. Eagles duly responded, Tom sent a chipped through ball to Guy who beat the defence and lobbed the advancing keeper for 1-3.

Again B of E tried to rally but were reduced to long shots as Eagles defence held firm. Eagles then wrapped up the game when Guy found room on the right to send a cross/shot to the back post which was cleaned up by Dan at the far post 1-4.

Eagles had produced a great display of football to keep them top going into 2007, watch out for the pie over Christmas and keep up the good work for the New Year.

POM goes to Woody in a close run contest between 2 other guys who also had great games.
